Yellow Ribbon Program

VIDEO: The Yellow Ribbon Program with Kipp McGuire (IWP '18)

The Institute is completely committed to our veterans.  The Yellow Ribbon program is one of many ways we honor this commitment.  The Institute has designed its Yellow Ribbon offering to allow eligible veterans to attend our Master’s Degree program on a full-time basis, with no out-of-pocket tuition costs.

How it works:

The Yellow Ribbon program provides supplemental assistance to 100% benefit-eligible post-9/11 recipients through a mutual partnership between The Institute of World Politics and the Department of Veterans Affairs.  Through this agreement, IWP will provide scholarship funds, in addition to matching funds provided by the VA, to cover the remaining cost of tuition and mandatory fees (provided that the student has exhausted his/her initial post-9/11 eligibility for the given school year).

Please see this link for additional information concerning the Yellow Ribbon Program.

How does this program benefit the student?

The Post-9/11 GI Bill pays up to $21,084.89 to eligible students attending private institutions of higher learning beginning in the fall 2015 semester. The 2015-2016 Yellow Ribbon Program fund becomes available August 1, 2015. The Institute of World Politics has instituted an unlimited number of funds for disbursement to eligible students so as to relieve them of any out-of-pocket costs associated with tuition and mandatory fees. The VA will match the institutional contribution and issue payment directly to IWP.

Who is eligible?

Only individuals entitled to the maximum benefit rate (based on service requirements) may receive this funding. Therefore, they may be eligible if:

  • They served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001, of at least 36 months;
  • They were honorably discharged from active duty for a service connected disability and they served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001;
  • They are a dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill based on a veteran's service under the eligibility criteria listed above.

How to apply:

Per federal regulations, eligible recipients will submit applicable documents that indicate that they meet the eligibility requirements for 100% Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits. Current Yellow Ribbon Program recipients need not reapply; however, they must complete a VA Certification Request Form each semester they are enrolled to ensure the VA receives their status of enrollment for payment.
