Professional Experience

Robert Bland is a doctoral candidate in the Department of History at the University of Maryland. His dissertation, "Redefining Reconstruction: The South Carolina Lowcountry and Representations of Race and Citizenship, 1876-1965," explores the role of the South Carolina Lowcountry in national memory and popular culture between the end of the Reconstruction and the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement. A graduate ofWilliams College, Robert taught high school history in Jackson, MS, before returning to graduate school to earn his PhD.

As an alumnus of the Institute for Responsible Citizenship, Robert has been both a student in, and, an instructor for the Lynde and Harry Bradley Seminar on Constitutional and Economic Principles
