CNN has retained, pro bono, IWP Professor Marek Jan Chodakiewicz as a historical consultant for the production of an upcoming documentary about the Warsaw Uprising against the Nazis during World War II.

From August 1 to October 3, 1944, the Polish Underground Home Army launched the Uprising against the Nazis, and attempted to prevent the Soviet takeover of Poland. As the Red Army stood by barely a mile away, the Nazis and their auxiliaries killed approximately 250,000 Polish civilians and insurgents. Stalin refused landing rights to Allied supply planes. Meanwhile, Allied politicians did very little to aid the Poles.

Dr. Chodakiewicz has been a historical consultant for the project. In November 2003, he researched in the Polish archives and discovered valuable documentary footage from the Uprising. He also supplied old insurgent songs for the sound-track of the documentary-in-the-making and provided expert opinion on various aspects of the Uprising. CNN's Kathy Slobogin (pictured) interviewed Dr. Chodakiewicz at IWP in late February.
