Prof. Sokolski appointed to WMD commission

Henry Sokolski, adjunct professor at The Institute of World Politics and Executive Director of the Nonproliferation Policy Education Center, has been appointed by Congress to the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism.The Congressional press release notes that the new Commission "will assess the nation's current activities, initiatives, and programs aimed at preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and terrorism while providing a clear, comprehensive strategy with concrete recommendations to achieve this crucial goal."  {read more}

Most nations, and unfortunately our own State Department, mistakenly interpret the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as recognizing and protecting a country's right to acquire all the technology and materials related to a nuclear energy program so long as it is declared to be for civilian use only and is open to monitoring by the International Atomic Energy Agency.  {read more}

IWP marks tour of first Army intern

Captain Terry Parisher, the Institute's first intern from the US Army, completed his three-month tour at the Institute on April 25, 2008.  IWP presented Capt. Parisher with a Certificate of Participation in the Joint, Interagency, Intergovernmental, and Multinational Internship Program which he completed at IWP while working closely with Institute professors, attending classes at the Institute, and performing independent research. Capt. Parisher's young family joined Institute faculty and staff for a ceremony at which he received his certificate.  In a generous gesture of his appreciation of IWP, Capt. Parisher, an expert in the operation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), presented IWP with an American flag that was carried on an operational Predator UAV mission in Iraq.  {read more}
