Dr. Mark Lagon joins private anti-trafficking organization

Dr. Mark Lagon, an adjunct professor at The Institute of World Politics who has been on leave for government service at the U.S. Department of State, has joined Polaris Project as its Executive Director.
Polaris Project is one of the few private organizations working on all forms of trafficking and serving both citizen and foreign national victims of human trafficking. Among other activities, Polaris Project provides social services and transitional housing to victims, operates the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, and advocating stronger anti-trafficking legislation.
At the Department of State, Dr. Lagon served in a number of notable positions, including as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs (2004-2007) and most recently as Ambassador-at-Large and Director of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons and Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State. At IWP, he has taught Problems of Promoting Regime Change and Democracy.
