General Richard B. Myers speaks at inaugural event for Center for Human Rights and International Affairs

General Richard B. Myers, April 2014On April 4, General Richard B. Myers, 15th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, gave a lecture entitled "Digital Soft Power and the War on Extremism" at the inaugural event for the Center for Human Rights and International Affairs.

The Center, housed at the Institute and created in partnership with human rights organization Good of All, conducts research and organizes events exploring the relationship between human rights and international affairs and security issues, as well as ways to prevent and address radicalization. The Center is led by Dr. Matt Daniels, who will be teaching a new course at IWP on Human Rights and Counter-Radicalization.

In his remarks, General Myers discussed the proper way to use data and the media to counter national security threats, and how the United States is currently neglecting to focus on the use of soft power.
