In Memoriam: Herb Romerstein, Professor and Freedom Fighter

May 8, 2013  |  PRESS RELEASES

RomersteinOn May 7, longtime IWP professor Herb Romerstein passed away at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington in Rockville, Maryland.

At IWP, he had taught the course on foreign propaganda, perceptions, and policy.

Formerly, Prof. Romerstein had served as one of the key professional staffers for Congress' internal security committees and the House Intelligence Committee.  He was Director of the Office to Counter Soviet Disinformation at the U.S. Information Agency.

"Herb was a national treasure," says IWP president John Lenczowski.  "Here was a man who started out in his teenage years influenced by communism, who then saw the truth about that ideology and turned against the party.

"He was one of the most indomitable fighters for the cause of freedom in modern American history... He had encyclopedic knowledge about totalitarian propaganda, whether it was Nazi or communist, and was one of the greatest practitioners and teachers of how to fight propagandistic falsehood."

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a contribution to the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington or to the charity of your choice.
