After a thorough search for a new cost effective system to manage academic and administrative data, IWP has partnered with EMPOWER Student Information System for a fully integrated solution. In addition to campus-wide data integration, EMPOWER promises to provide the tools necessary effectively to manage admissions, records, financial aid, and much more.
Registrar Hasanna Benson-Tyus comments, "I am very excited about EMPOWER. One of the distinct advantages of the new system is being able to access more data, more easily. We chose EMPOWER to manage our student data because it met or exceeded all of our requirements at an affordable price."
The new EMPOWER student information system platform will go live and be available for student and faculty use by mid-September 2013.
How will this affect students and faculty?
The look and feel of the new system will be different, but the functionality and ease of the Self-Service Portal will be the same.
Students will still be able to register online, view class schedules and grades, view and accept financial aid rewards, print tax documents, and will now have the ability to pay their account balance directly through the Portal.
Faculty will still have the ability to submit grades, view and print class rosters, and send emails to their students and advisees.
In preparation for this transition, students and faculty will not be able to enter new data into Datatel/WebAdvisor as of August 23, 2013. After this date, this system will be "view only" until the "go live" date in mid-September at which point Datatel (administrative use) will be used for historical data and WebAdvisor will be discontinued.
In the interim, all registrations and add/drops done after August 23rd will be done via paper course registration forms. Students and Faculty can continue to log into WebAdvisor to view class schedules/rosters and transcripts/grades, but keep in mind that new registrations (added after August 23rd) will not be reflected on WebAdvisor. Students should stop contacting HES to make payments immediately. Tuition payments can be made directly to IWP by mail or by phone for credit card transactions.
Prior to our "go live" date, students and faculty will receive username and password information and an EMPOWER user guide to help navigate the new system.
IWP is confident that the new system will allow the administration to deliver the functionality and experience that is expected by our community.
