Islam in Contemporary Global Politics

Four credits

This course will inform students about political theory and practice in the Islamic world throughout its history so as provide them with the background and context necessary to understand the political significance of Islam in the contemporary Islamic world. It will then survey the relationships between politics and religion in the contemporary Islamic world and analyze the activities of the totalitarian Islamist network.

Information Operations and Information Warfare

The objective of this course is to (1) introduce the student to the basic concepts of information operations and information warfare in the context of psychological strategy; (2) develop an understanding of the use of information as a tool of statecraft and as a weapon of war; and (3) analyze our strengths and weaknesses, and those of our potential adversaries, in this realm.
