John BergholzJohn Bergholz currently serves as Vice President of Institutional Advancement for The Institute of World Politics.

With over 25 years of experience, this assignment with IWP marks his 4th time as a Vice President for an institution of higher education. He began his career in higher education fundraising at Northwestern University’s School of Law, where he directed the annual fund and learned about personal solicitations.  He was credited with turning that annual fund into a major gifts program that achieved new records of giving.

He has also held the title of Executive Director and served briefly as President of the LCFS (Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois) Foundation. Mr. Bergholz has worked in the U.S. and in Canada and has done international alumni and development work in several countries, including helping to secure major funding for a university in Kenya which he was able to visit.

Mr. Bergholz has been a consultant on all aspects of fundraising, phonathons, board building, program development, alumni relations, and international activities and has presented on these topics at a variety of fundraising and alumni conferences.

In addition to working for a variety of non-profits, Mr. Bergholz has also served on the boards of several non-profit boards. One such volunteer assignment, was his term as an alumni trustee for his alma mater, Reed College, from which he received his B.A. in International Studies.
