IWP Announces Two New Endowed Chairs

Thanks to two generous benefactors, IWP has created endowed chairs to support two full-time professors.

Ambassador Alberto Piedra, a veteran diplomat and former chairman of the Department of Business and Economics at the Catholic University of America, is now the Donald E. Bently Professor at IWP.

Dr. John Tierney, Jr., IWP faculty chairman and professor of international relations, now holds the new Walter Kohler Chair.

“The Bently and Koehler endowments are generous votes of confidence in The Institute of World Politics and its gifted professors,” said IWP Director John Lenczowski. “Following a substantial endowment by the Leonore and Walter Annenberg Foundation for a chair in international communication, the Bently and Kohler chairs provide two more cornerstones for the school’s institutional growth and progress.”

Entrepreneur Donald E. Bently, a longtime Institute benefactor and Honorary Chairman of the IWP Board of Overseers, and the Wisconsin-based Charlotte and Walter Kohler Charitable Trust, gave matching grants to create each respective endowment.
