Our new career consultant helps IWP students and alumni

Need help starting or improving your career? Call our new Career Services Consultant, Derrick T. Dortch.


Formerly assistant director of Georgetown University’s MBNA Career Education Center and a career counselor with the US Coast Guard auxiliary, Mr. Dortch is President of The Diversa Group, a career, leadership, and organizational consulting company.


He served in the United States Marine Corps during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He received his Master of Education in Counseling and Student Development from Tuskegee University.

Mr. Dortch is also a Career Expert with the Washington Post and hosts a monthly online show on washingtonpost.com focusing on the government job search, getting a security clearance and other career, work and life issues.

In his capacity as IWP Career Services Consultant, Mr. Dortch will offer career counseling, job and internship search advice, resume writing and editing, and interview preparation. He will also work to set up networks and employment opportunities for students with government agencies, non-profits, non-governmental organizations and private companies. And he will continue to host career workshops, which he has been doing since 2004.

Mr. Dortch’s office hours are Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:00-6:00 p.m. His office is located on the second floor of the main building.
