IWP alumnus Paris Michaels was recently recognized as holding a world aviation speed record.

The pilot, who received a Master’s degree from IWP in 2006, is now recognized as holding the world speed record over a commercial air route in excess of 6,500 km.

According to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, Michaels broke the record while flying an Airbus 330-300 on a Philadelphia-to-Rome flight on November 29, 2003, clocked at at 990.57 km/hour.

His crew was Joseph W. Graham, the holder of numerous speed records, and Carlisle C. Owen. Michaels was on Graham’s crew when Graham set an earlier record on a Rome-to-Philadelphia flight.
