IWP hosts Miss DC Scholarship Organization event

Jen Corey, John Lenczowski, and Jim LangevinOn January 13, The Institute of World Politics hosted the 2010 Send-Off Reception for the Miss District of Columbia Scholarship Organization.  Miss DC 2009, Jennifer Corey, gave a special preview of her competition wardrobe for the upcoming Miss America Pageant.  Miss Corey, a 2009 cum laude graduate of American University and a Placido Domingo Intern at the Washington National Opera also amazed the guests with a performance of “O Mio Bambino Caro,” which she will perform in the competition.

Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) also stopped by to wish Miss Corey luck.  As a member of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and Committee on Armed Services, he enjoyed meeting IWP President John Lenczowski and learning about IWP’s programs.

A highlight of the evening was a surprise visit from General and Mrs. John Singlaub.  Gen. Singlaub is a highly-decorated former OSS officer, a retired Major General in the U.S. Army, and a founding member of the CIA.  Additional notables included Diana Spencer, President of The Kathryn W. Davis Foundation and IWP benefactor and Zelda Brown, who was in the top ten in the 1938 Miss District of Columbia Pageant.

After several meetings over the past few months with IWP students to help her prepare for the question-answer part of the competition, Miss Corey will continue on to the Miss America Pageant, which will be broadcast live on TLC on January 30th at 8:00 PM EST.
