House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Howard Berman has invited IWP Professor J Michael Waller to testify before a congressional panel on the importance of America’s image around the world. The panel is the Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight.
“We would appreciate it if you could provide Members of the Subcommittee with your views on how public opinion of the United States abroad can be leveraged to promote national security,” Chairman Berman said in a letter to the professor. “Please discuss how strategic communication can be used to enhance our strategic global influence. Please address the challenges that exist in America’s public diplomacy apparatus, and what practical steps can be teaken to improve interagency coordination and effectiveness.”
The hearing will take place on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 2:00 pm in Room 2172 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
