BG John Thomson III, who served as IWP’s first Senior War College Fellow in 2008-09, was recently appointed Commandant of Cadets at The United States Military Academy.
After completing his fellowship at IWP, BG Thomson took command of the 41st Fires Brigade, or “Railgunners,” at the unit’s garrison in Fort Hood, Texas. He then served as Director of the Chief’s Coordination Group (CCG) for the 38th Chief of Staff of the Army at Headquarters, Department of the Army. Most recently, he has been stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado, where he is Deputy Commander for the 4th Infantry Division.
In his next role, BG Thomson will be carrying out the mission of the Commandant of Cadets: “To develop each Cadet into a commissioned leader of character who possesses the will to win, personal courage, adaptability, physical fitness and mental toughness essential to the profession of arms, and is inspired to a career of professional excellence in the United States Army.”
