On June 23, Dr. John J. Tierney, Jr. spoke at the International Symposium on Cultural Diplomacy in the USA, sponsored by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy.
The symposium, entitled “US Cultural Diplomacy in Practice: Building Cultural Bridges to Strengthen the Relationships between America and the Global Community,” is taking place from June 23-27 in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and New York City.
Dr. Tierney, who currently serves as the Walter Kohler Professor of International Relations and Academic Dean, Ad Interim at The Institute of World Politics, gave a lecture on “How Cultural Diplomacy Helped Win the Cold War.”
Other speakers included Alberto Gonzalez, 80th US Attorney General; Craig Kennedy, former president of the German Marshall Fund of the US; Gov. Richard Bryan, 25th Governor of Nevada; Amb. Elena Poptodorova, Ambassador of Bulgaria to the US; and Walter Pincus of the Washington Post.
At IWP, Dr. Tierney teaches courses on diplomacy, international relations, conflict resolution, and U.S. foreign policy.
