Obama was better for Putin than Trump, says Mackubin Owens

There has been a great deal of smoke — but no fire — regarding the claim that Donald Trump is Vladimir Putin’s puppet. Although there is no question that Russia has engaged in “active measures” designed to disrupt American politics, if there were any real evidence that Trump is a Manchurian Candidate, it is certain that the anti-Trump media would have gleefully reported it by now.

In fact, Trump has followed in the footsteps of George W. Bush and Barack Obama, who both sought a more cooperative relationship with Russia at the beginning of their administrations. But those who suggest that Trump is uniquely “soft” on Russia should recall the infamous “hot mike” episode from March of 2012, when President Obama was caught in private conversation with outgoing Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, asking him to convey the message to Putin that the latter should give him more “space” and that “after my [re]election I have more flexibility.”
