Making sure the right person is giving you advice is part of making the right decision on what school to attend. First, let me introduce myself. My name is Derrick T. Dortch, Director of Career Services at The Institute of World Politics. I am a nationally recognized expert in assisting job seekers in the fields of intelligence, national security, and international affairs. I served in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and have also worked on national, homeland and international security issues, so I know this world firsthand. I stay connected to what is going on through various projects, and my work as a government career expert and columnist for The Washington Post and radio show host on Federal News Radio. I served as Assistant Director at Georgetown University’s Career Education Center, have a Master’s in Counseling and Student Development, and have been advising, counseling and helping individuals succeed and get into your field of interest for many years. My ultimate mission is your success!
Accessibility to Career Services
At many schools, your access to your career advisor is only during their office hours on Monday – Friday and possibly through phone or email. This is not the case at IWP. Because of the unique culture of the Institute and the focus on helping you succeed, you get unprecedented access to your career advisor. Appointments, office hours, phone, email, instant messaging, video chat, and text are all options for you to connect with your Career Success Counselor. Hours are not limited to office hours. Day, evening or night, you have access to get the advice, counseling and guidance you need to help you succeed.

IWP’s Career Services are focused on the development of a “Career Success Strategy & Action Plan” that will help you achieve your career goals. This strategy includes but is not limited to the following:
