Edward Amoroso‘s 28 year career at AT&T began at Bell Laboratories, where he worked on numerous federal government security initiatives. In the 1980s, Dr. Amoroso was a member of the security design team for then-President Ronald Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative, the program that sought to build a space-based shield to protect Americans from a nuclear ballistic missile attack. Now, as Chief Security Officer at AT&T, Dr. Amoroso oversees a strategic defense initiative of a different nature – securing billions of bytes of information as they travel over the airwaves and wires.
He has authored four books on information security including Cyber Security, which is written for mainstream readers, and is required reading for IWP’s Cyber Statecraft class, and his latest book Cyber Attacks: Protecting National Infrastructure.
Dr. Amoroso holds MS and PhD degrees in computer science from the Stevens Institute of Technology and is a graduate of the Senior Executive Program at the Columbia Business School. He has served as an Adjunct Professor in the Computer Science Department at Stevens Institute of Technology for the past twenty years, and his work has been featured in many publications worldwide.
Daryl Haegley is a Program Manager for Business Enterprise Integration in the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Installations and Environment) overseeing the Information risk management effort to modernize and integrate real property, geospatial, and energy systems for the Department of Defense (DoD).
He leads the Enterprise Energy Information Management (EEIM) Capability initiative to standardized DoD processes and integrate systems needed to systematically track, analyze, and report facility energy and water use and related costs. Additionally, he leads DoD policy development and a Technical Working Group to standardize DoD’s Cybersecurity Control baseline and overlay specifics for Industrial Control Systems (ICS)- Platform Information Technology (I-PIT) systems, such as electronic (smart) meters and other embedded electronic control systems. He drafted the Committee for National Security Systems ICS Overlay, I&E Continuity of Operations (COOP) plan and coordinated internal organizational responses regarding systematic effectiveness and efficiency of operations, or in compliance with applicable laws and regulations of internal organizational controls. He represents DoD on National Broadband initiative, serves as chief Operations Security advisor to OUSD Acquisition Technology & Logistics.
Zachary Nunn currently serves as the Chief of Operations for Embassy Security Evaluations with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. In this role he executes counter-espionage operations using technical countermeasures and tradecraft to safeguard US diplomatic posts against Foreign Intelligence Operatives.
Immediately previous to this post, Mr. Nunn served as the Director of Cybersecurity Policy on the National Security Staff with the White House. As professional staff, Zach spearheaded outreach to 500+ private partners to recommended voluntary safeguards to maximize economic/security benefit. Much of this work was codified in the President’s first cybersecurity Executive Order in February 2013. Additionally, he chaired an inter-agency policy committee on ‘best-practices’ for key infrastructure protection to develop a national incident alert network by partnering with 300+ industry sector leads. In a tactical success, Zach teamed with US Treasury, the Federal Communication Commission and the Department of Homeland Security to lead 12 White House anti-DDOS initiatives safeguarding 155 million end-users and developing public-private collaboration to shape commercially sensible strategies, and ultimately denying cyber crime billion of dollars.
Previous positions include serving as the first National Counterintelligence Officer for Cyber, and Legislative Affairs Officer for cyber, where co-authored the Intelligence Community’s Unifying Intelligence Strategy on cyber threat actors and mitigation options for the US Government.
Mr. Nunn currently serves as a Major in the US Air Force Reserves, leading a team of cyber warriors as the Deputy Chief of Advanced Systems for US Cyber Command.
