Ms. Esmerita Sanchez serves as the National Deputy for the Department of Caaguazú in Paraguay, a position to which she was elected in 2013 and will hold until 2018. During her parliamentary tenure, she has served as Chairperson of the Committee on Migration and Development; President of the Commission of Public Health; Secretary of the Commission of Education, Culture and Religion; and Member of the Committee on Science and Technology, among other positions. She is also President of the Committee on Immigration Affairs and Development.
She is an expert in reproductive health at the National Institute of Public Health in Paraguay, and currently serves as one of the foremost experts in public health for the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the National University of Asuncion. Ms. Sanchez is the founder of the Constitution of Civil Society (CEFOE), a project for the Center for Development of Advanced Education.
Ms. Sanchez has earned degrees in Gynecology (1991) and Nursing (1997) from the Dr. Andres Barbero Institute at the National University of Asuncion. She also earned a graduate degree in University Research and Public Health Issues from the National Institute of Public Health in Paraguay.
