Cyber Intelligence for Insider Threats

This seminar will focus on the approach for the identification and mitigation of insider threats. Insider threats are those who have access and through actions unwittingly or wittingly compromise or threaten organizational mission effectiveness. The seminar will cover the various forms of actors (both state and non-state), their motivations, and their methodologies (both technical and increasingly non-technical) that they employ. Then the seminar will address the policies and legal framework for prevention, through the implementation of an effective multi-disciplinary mitigation security strategy.

Chris KayInstructor: Chris Kay

Chris Kay is a Senior Policy Advisor, retired Naval Officer, and IWP alumnus with over two decades of management expertise in national security strategy and policy, analysis, international engagement, information warfare, trusted secure communications systems, and information assurance.

Vital Cyber Analysis Skills

Provides vital skills for analysts, beginning with the fundamentals of intelligence analysis and then applying those foundational skills to the cyber domain. Also covered:

  • Intelligence cycle
  • OODA loop
  • Different methodologies
  • Probability rationale
  • Structured analytic techniques
  • Predictive intelligence writing and briefing.

This seminar/briefing will enable the student to develop a familiarity with writing short, bottom line up front (BLUF) products, briefing their predictive assessments, and defending those conclusions.

Instructor: Brian Lane

Brian Lane is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with more than fifteen years of experience in the maritime and intelligence communities.  He has authored hundreds of finished intelligence products. Brian has extensive experience using all source methodologies to conduct advanced maritime analysis on the movement of CBRNE cargoes (both illicit and state to state), oil and gas, intermodal cargoes, and other maritime topics of interest. He has equivalent expertise in evaluating, planning, and executing exercises to test both DoD and commercial plans and systems. Brian pioneered some of the advanced analytic methodologies still in use in the Intelligence Community today for maritime domain awareness.
