On Tuesday, October 12 at 4:30 PM, Dr. Saidel Laine, a medical doctor who is currently running for President of Haiti, will speak at IWP.
Dr. Laine was invited to speak by IWP board member Frank Ryan. Mr. Ryan, a retired United States Marine, was called to Afghanistan to help develop an plan for economic recovery and growth. He is working with Dr. Laine to apply a similar plan for economic growth in Haiti. Please RSVP to kbridges@iwp.edu.
Saidel Laine graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from the State University of Haiti in 1967 and served in occupational medicine at the Reynolds Haitian Mines for 6 months. Returning to the United States of America in 1970, he earned several other degrees and specialized in different branches of medical science, including anesthesiology and respiratory care. He had a rotating internship at Jewish Memorial Hospital in New York, where he won first prize in a presentation of a scientific paper.
He was a Resident in Anesthesiology at Columbia University Medical Center New-York/Columbia-Presbyterian. He also completed a Fellowship in Clinical Respiratory Research work from 1973 to 1974 at Columbia University. Three years later, the results of this work were published in the American Journal of Medicine, under the title “Diaphragmatic Energy Expenditure in Chronic Respiratory Failure” (September 1977). More recently, Dr. Laine has obtained Board Certified Management in Health Care.
