Charlie Wilson’s War recounts the true story of U.S. Congressman “Good Time Charlie” Wilson (TX) and his partnering with CIA operative Gust Avrakotos and wealthy Texas supporter Joanne Herring to launch Operation Cyclone, a program to organize and support the Afghan mujahadeen in their resistence to the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. The film is adapted from George Crile’s 2003 book, Charlie Wilson’s War: The Extraordinary Story of the Largest Covert Operation in History.

Prof. Tsagronis teaches National Security Policy Process and Theory and Practice of U.S. Counterinsurgency at IWP. He is Vice President for National Security Strategy at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and previously served as Senior Director for Policy Implementation and Execution on the National Security Council.
