ABOUT: Angie Abide will provide an overview of Nicaragua, giving a brief background of the country. She will then focus on the history of Nicaraguan-Soviet relations, including the political, economic and military support that the Soviet Union provided the Sandinista government in its rise to power. Finally, she will discuss the reemergence of Nicaragua’s relationship with the Kremlin, and how this relationship parallels the one with the Soviet Union.
SPEAKER BIO: Angie Abide is currently an M.A. candidate in Statecraft and International Affairs at the Institute of World Politics. She specializes in American Foreign Policy, US-Latin American Relations and Geoeconomics.
