Washington, D.C.
This lecture is part of a series on U.S. Foreign Policy and Grand Strategy sponsored by the Charles Koch Foundation.
About the book: In his book, Dr. Posen argues that the United States has grown incapable of moderating its ambitions in international politics. Since the collapse of Soviet power, it has pursued a grand strategy that can be called “liberal hegemony,” which is unnecessary, counter-productive, costly, and wasteful. The purpose of this book is to explain why this grand strategy works poorly, and to offer an alternative grand strategy and associated military strategy and force structure.
About the author: Barry R. Posen is Ford International Professor of Political Science at MIT, Director of the MIT Security Studies Program, and serves on the Executive Committee of Seminar XXI.
