Brendan Steinhauser (IWP Class 2011) will discuss how he has applied lessons learned at IWP to his work in domestic politics. He will use the tea party as a case study in which a grassroots movement was successful as a result of the use of various strategic communications tools.
Brendan Steinhauser is one of the nation’s leading political strategists. As a founding partner of Steinhauser Strategies, a full-service public relations and political consulting firm based in Austin, Texas, Brendan works on advocacy and political campaigns across the country. During the 2014 mid-term cycle, Brendan served as Senator John Cornyn’s campaign manager. Senator Cornyn was overwhelmingly re-elected with 62% of the vote including an unprecedented 48% of the Latino vote. As Campaign Manager, Brendan made minority outreach a centerpiece of Cornyn’s heavily favored re-election campaign. Previously, Brendan was the Director of Communications for the Right on Crime initiative at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Prior to moving to Texas in 2012, Brendan served as the Director of Federal and State Campaigns for FreedomWorks, a Washington, D.C. based conservative non-profit organization for seven years. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from The University of Texas, where he led the UT chapter of The Young Conservatives of Texas. In 2011, Brendan earned a Master’s Degree in Statecraft and International Affairs from The Institute of World Politics.
