Aaron A. Danis

Mr. Danis is a career terrorism and counterterrorism specialist, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Military Studies and a Master’s degree in Security Policy Studies. He is a retired U.S. Army intelligence officer, and has served in the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, U.S. Coast Guard Intelligence, the Treasury Department, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the National Counterterrorism Center, and the National Defense University.  He recently retired from the U.S. government after serving as the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) faculty chair to National Intelligence University for 4 years during its transition from the Defense Intelligence Agency to ODNI.

• In May 2025, Prof. Danis organized a group of students to play the commercial wargame, Littoral Commander-Baltic.
• In spring 2025, Prof. Danis led IWP’s Capstone Crisis Simulation.
• In April 2025, Prof. Danis moderated a panel for a conference on Wargaming Future Technologies.
• Prof. Danis organized IWP students to play the RAND-designed global defense planning game Hedgemony in January 2025.
• In May 2024, Prof. Danis was recognized at IWP’s awards ceremony for his extensive teaching on counterterrorism and military strategy, as well as his efforts in enhancing IWP’s IAFIE Chapter through engaging war games and fostering academic growth.
