CH (COL) Samuel K. Godfrey

Chaplain (Colonel) Samuel K. (Ken) Godfrey hails from Hodges, SC. Ken married Karen Cavell McCracken from Socastee, SC in 1985. Ken and Karen assist each other in chapel and community service, sharing a love for Christ and a passion to strengthen individuals, marriages, and Families. The International Pentecostal Holiness Church ordained Ken and endorses him for the Army Chaplaincy. Ken was commissioned as an Army Chaplain in 1990 and served in the United States Army Reserve (USAR) and SC Army National Guard (SCARNG) until accessioning to Active Duty in 1993. The Godfreys’ assignments span the Upstate, SC; Fort Gordon, GA; Katterbach, Germany; Bosnia; Vilseck, Germany; Kosovo; Fort Hood, TX; Fort Leavenworth, KS; Hunter Army Airfield, GA; Iraq; Arlington National Cemetery; the Pentagon; and Fort Huachuca, AZ. Chaplain Godfrey became an Army War College Fellow (academic year 2015) at The Institute of World Politics, Washington, DC.

Chaplain Godfrey served the 3288th USAR Forces School; 1-63rd Air Defense Artillery Battalion (HAWK); 366th Signal Battalion (Advanced Individual Training); 67th Signal Battalion (Echelon Above Corps); 2-1st Aviation Battalion (Blackhawk) and 1-63rd Armor Battalion, both in the 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One); Fort Leavenworth, KS as Family Life Chaplain; Combat Aviation Brigade/3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized, Dog Faced Soldiers); Garrison Chaplain of Hunter Army Airfield, GA; Senior Army Chaplain at Arlington National Cemetery; Command Policy Branch Chief at Headquarters Department of the Army G-1 (Personnel); and Senior Garrison Chaplain at the US Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Fort Huachuca, AZ.

Ken graduated from Holmes College of the Bible, Erskine Theological Seminary, Tarleton State University, Army Chaplain Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Army Family Life Chaplain Training Center, the Command and General Staff College, and Chaplain Colonel Course. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Bible focused on Pastoral Ministry; Master of Divinity; and Masters in Counseling Psychology. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, and the Army Staff Badge.
