Internship Experience

IWP interns reflect on their experience

Fourteen interns from colleges and universities around the United States recently celebrated the completion of the IWP fall internship program. They worked on various topics including counterterrorism, cyber intelligence, cyber security, and defense economics. Here, they reflect on their experiences doing research, auditing courses, connecting with IWP faculty and staff, and growing professionally.

“The real strength of IWP is its faculty and network of national security professionals who can share their knowledge, which is drawn from their own experience in the field. It is one thing learning about the work of human collection from a textbook or a museum; it is another to hear a former CIA officer talk about his own experiences recruiting and working with agents in foreign countries.”

“My favorite part of this internship was the research I did; however, it was very difficult to pick and choose because of all the incredible research options that IWP offers to its interns. In the end, I decided to work on a defense economics research project with IWP professor, Dr. Wayne A. Schroeder.”
