Through my internship with The Institute of World Politics Center for Energy Security and Diplomacy, I had the privilege to contribute to the Energy Diplomacy Leadership program. This experience placed me at the intersection of high-level women executives from the energy sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and U.S. diplomacy. Having first-hand experience of the relationship between international affairs, energy strategy, and women’s leadership was extremely beneficial towards my professional development and knowledge of the field. Ultimately, it highlighted for me the personal nature behind these major strategic decisions, emphasizing the vital role of conversation and collaboration.
Participating in this program furthered my commitment to studying the intersection of science, technology, and international affairs. Throughout this week, I was exposed to real-world applications of these fields through meetings with policymakers, energy experts, and diplomats who are actively shaping global energy strategies. From discussions on nuclear energy and AI infrastructure to critical mineral supply chains and energy security, I saw how deeply interconnected scientific innovation and international diplomacy truly are. This exposure helped me connect classroom theory to current geopolitical challenges, and it solidified my interest in pursuing a career that bridges technical expertise with strategic, global problem-solving.

Outside of the Center for Energy Security and Diplomacy, I enjoyed participating in lectures, workshops, and site visits through the intern program. These experiences enriched my understanding of national security and international relations, while equipping me with valuable skills for my future career. I especially appreciated the strength of the IWP network and the opportunity to engage with so many inspiring professionals working across the government and private sector.
