My time as an intern at The Institute of World Politics has been instrumental in shaping my professional goals. Over the course of the program, I developed a deeper understanding of how to conduct research across a wide range of international issues and apply that research in both long-form analytical writing and short, focused policy briefings. The hands-on experience helped refine my ability to approach complex topics with clarity and purpose.
One of the most transformative aspects of this internship has been the growth of my public speaking skills. When I first arrived at IWP, I had very little confidence in my ability to speak in front of an audience. After delivering several intelligence and policy briefings, I’ve become more confident and capable than I ever imagined. These opportunities forced me out of my comfort zone and led me to hone my public speaking skills.
Beyond academics, IWP offered me valuable networking opportunities and exposure to professionals deeply connected to the intelligence and national security communities. Being a recent graduate from a large public university, it was refreshing to be part of a setting where professors and staff not only knew your name but were genuinely invested in your future.
