I have greatly enjoyed being an Advancement Intern for three reasons: the people, the process, and the education. First, I have had the wonderful opportunity of working under Sade and fellow Advancement intern Isabelle. From the first day, we have worked as a team to develop and advance IWP’s mission through donor relations. All of the other interns (departmental and research) that I have met through the IWP internship programming have also shared a teamwork attitude. The people at IWP, whether that be staff, professors, or interns, are eager to help and serve.
Secondly, I would like to highlight how, during my time here as an intern, I have progressed in my briefing skills and strategic thinking. Throughout this process, I have developed writing skills and the BLUF approach (bottom line up front) to develop quality presentations on relevant policy and intelligence issues regarding the United States’ national security. In this environment, I have learned professionalism, and through different wargames, how to work with others.
Through the process, I have learned much about intelligence, national security, and international affairs. Finally, I have also had the opportunity to learn from the wonderful IWP speakers who have shared their national security journeys. From my time here with IWP, I have been inspired by the great work they do, and I have great hope for the future of our national security. IWP is truly cultivating the next generation of world leaders.
