This summer, I was able to intern as a National Security, Intelligence, and International Affairs Research Intern under Dr. Matthew Jenkins. Our research team was tasked with researching the geopolitical and technological ramifications of the Golden Dome system, as well as which policy considerations should guide the development of the Golden Dome within the context of global security cooperation and deterrence strategy. In addition to writing a research paper and working towards publication, we were able to deliver a final presentation to all research advisors and interns on our work throughout the semester. I was able to learn so much from my team and am so grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow in this role.
Outside of the research component, I enjoyed taking IWP 615: Western Moral and Political Thought. This was a firsthand look into the curriculum and experience one can gain by pursuing studies at IWP. I truly enjoyed learning from Dr. McCranor, who always kept the class engaged, and having the opportunity to take a graduate class within IWP. This summer, I was also able to meet various other students and professors at IWP who had so much to share about all things national security, intelligence, and international affairs.
Each week, interns were also able to play war games focused on various regions and take guided tours throughout D.C. Within the program, I was able to attend various events hosted by IWP as well as visit places such as the DIA, the Pentagon, and the DOJ with my peers. I always looked forward to programming both inside and outside of IWP’s walls.
