The IWP Internship Experience: Adam Stone

Throughout my time at IWP, I have been able to gain an understanding of what a career in global politics with a particular emphasis on intelligence could realistically look like. Through the internship program, I have been able to hear from and connect with people ranging from undersecretaries of state to former members of the National Security Council.

Within the IWP Center for Energy Security and Diplomacy, I have undertaken research on country-specific energy and critical minerals policy, attended events with foreign dignitaries, and aided Dr. Sara Vakhshouri, a professional in energy security. I have also gained access to events with leaders, from State Department officials to C-suite executives in energy, which has given me tremendous insight into what a career in the field might look like. Dr. Vakhshouri offered invaluable advice, making sure her interns were intentional with their time and effort.

As a recent graduate of a school of international relations, I have developed tools and abilities at the undergraduate level. However, there was little class time dedicated to the application of those skills in the real world. I believe IWP gave me a platform to home in on my career goals while also connecting with my peers across research.
