I am very impressed by the quality of IWP’s internship. Although the past 13 weeks have been challenging, it is certainly rewarding knowing that you endured such a rigorous curriculum. As a research intern, I have gained a refined understanding of the national security environment and the day-to-day of being an intelligence analyst.
I had the pleasure of working with Kyle Johnson, who not only helped guide our research reports but also connected with my peers and me on a more personal level. It is evident that the faculty and advisors leading this internship are participating because they genuinely care about cultivating the next generation of security experts. Mr. Johnson would dedicate time to understanding each of our personal goals and tailoring advice as such. Having access to esteemed professionals like Kyle will provide you with wisdom that is rare even in an undergraduate program.
What was so valuable to me was being surrounded by a cohort of students who shared similar career goals. Whether it’s working on the Hill or in an intelligence agency, everyone is experiencing the same struggles associated with being an entry-level candidate, which cultivates a close-knit group. On a daily basis, we engage in genuine conversations about our futures in national security, with quality feedback given back and forth. They say that your career in Washington, D.C. is only as successful as your network, and this internship is the first stepping stone in building that network.
