Louis DeJoy and Aldona Wos 2January 12, 2018, Washington, D.C. -- Thanks to the generosity of Louis DeJoy and Amb. Aldona Woś of North Carolina, the Louis DeJoy and Aldona Woś Family Foundation has recently made a gift of $20,000 to the Kościuszko Chair of Polish Studies at The Institute of World Politics.

This gift will be directed towards matching a $1 million challenge grant that was awarded to IWP by the American Institute of Polish Culture (AIPC) to establish the Kościuszko Chair as a permanent professorship and program at the school.

The Kościuszko Chair serves as a center for Polish Studies in the broadest sense, including learning, teaching, researching, and writing about Poland's culture, history, heritage, religion, government, economy, and successes in the arts, sciences, and letters, with special emphasis on the achievements of Polish civilization and its relation to other nations, particularly the United States.

The Chair is currently held by Dr. Marek Jan Chodakiewicz, one of America's foremost scholars on Poland and the Intermarium region. In addition to publishing numerous books and articles, Dr. Chodakiewicz is the head of the Center for Intermarium Studies at IWP and teaches five courses on topics ranging from geography and strategy to mass murder prevention.

Of this gift, Dr. Chodakiewicz commented: "The Kościuszko Chair will always appreciate the multigenerational and sustained effort of the DeJoy-Woś family in support of research, publishing, and popularization of the fascinating intricacies of the history of Poland and her neighbors."

This gift by the Louis DeJoy and Aldona Woś Family Foundation is the second major gift the Foundation has given IWP within the past year. In June, the Foundation gave IWP a $1 million grant to establish the The Louis DeJoy and Aldona Z. Woś Family Foundation Scholarship at IWP.  Amb. Woś also gives of her time to IWP, having served for over a decade on the Board of Trustees.

The Institute of World Politics would like to extend our tremendous gratitude to Mr. DeJoy and Amb. Woś for their incredible generosity to the school. Their support will help allow the Institute to impart vital lessons from Polish history and culture to our students and future world leaders for years to come.
