On November 10, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Cold War Museum Francis Gary Powers, Jr. gave a lecture at The Institute of World Politics regarding the importance and preservation of Cold War history.
During his remarks, Mr. Powers, the son of U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers, described his father’s experiences after being shot down and taken prisoner by the Soviet Union. He noted that the precise circumstances have been clouded by myth and misinformation, despite his father’s exoneration by the Senate Select Armed Services Committee. Along with his lecture, Mr. Powers signed his father’s memoir, Operation Overflight.
