On September 16, IWP hosted Matthew Spalding, Associate Vice President and Dean of Educational Programs for Hillsdale College, to discuss the U.S. Constitution and the Rule of Law. Dr. Spalding illustrated the vision the American founders had for the Constitution and how our government has strayed from the principles we once held so dear.
He explained that the U.S. Constitution separated our three branches of government in accordance with power and responsibilities, which “didn’t just divide power, but set it against itself.” Since then, our country has been moving down the path of an administrative government that is expanding and centralizing. In order to preserve our great nation, we need to stay true to our Constitution, where democracy is not just an ideal, but the reality of a self-governing people.
Matthew Spalding is also the best-selling author of We Still Hold These Truths: Rediscovering Our Principles, Reclaiming Our Future.
