IWP Professor Robert Stephan speaks at Smithsonian

IWP Adjunct Professor Robert Stephan spoke about Soviet counterintelligence against the Wermacht in a lecture on October 21, 2009 as a part of the Smithsonian Resident Associate Program. Among other topics, he discussed the impact of Soviet tactical and strategic counterintelligence on the Eastern Front.

Dr. Stephan’s presentation was part of a Smithsonian series on “World War II: The Espionage War.” Dr. Stephan is a widely-recognized expert on the past and present use of counterintelligence as a strategic instrument; his book, Stalin’s Secret War: Counterintelligence Against the Nazis, 1941-1945, is considered a classic textbook of the subject.
