IWP Professor Ken deGraffenreid was recently elected to serve on the board of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO). Professor deGraffenreid, a former Navy aviator and retired Captain, has an impressive background in the intelligence field. Most recently, he has served as Deputy National Counterintelligence Executive from 2004-2005.
His other former positions include Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Support at the Department of Defense, Senior Director of Intelligence Programs at the National Security Council, and Senior professional staff member on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
IWP Professor S. Eugene Poteat serves as President of AFIO, and IWP President John Lenczowski also serves on AFIO’s board. General Walter Jajko, Professor of Defense Studies and DARPA Fellow at IWP, is a former member of the AFIO board.
AFIO works to build a public constituency for a sound, healthy and capable U.S. intelligence system. Its focus on education fosters an understanding of the important role of intelligence in National Security and nurtures interest by students in careers in the many fields used by U.S. Intelligence Agencies. This includes the role of supporting intelligence activities in U.S. policy, diplomacy, strategy, security and defense.
