On Tuesday, April 26, 2011, IWP professor Christopher Harmon participated in a panel discussion on “Al-Qaida’s Strategic Framework.” Prof. Harmon specifically addressed the topic of “Confronting the UN and International System.”
BGen Thomas V. Draude, USMC (ret), President of the Marine Corps University Foundation chaired the panel, and Dr. Norman Cigar or the Marine Corps University participated in the panel and addressed the topic of “Selection of Theaters.”
The panel was part of the Marine Corps University’s 2011 Emerald Express Strategic Symposium, entitled “Al-Qaida After Ten Years of War: A Global Perspective of Successes, Failures and Prospects.” Other participants included Dr. Michael F. Scheuer, the former head of the CIA’s Bin Laden Unit, and Peter Bergen, who produced Osama bin Laden’s first television interview, in which he declared war against the United States for the first time to a Western audience.
