Student Government Association hosts BBQ for students

The Institute of World Politics Student Government Association (SGA) held its first event of the school year on Friday, September 23, 2011. Despite the subpar weather forecast for the evening, attendees enjoyed ribs, brisket, and the company of their classmates. Student Government Association Chairman Cushman Laurent remarked, “Like the United States Postal Service, rain, sleet, or snow could not stop the gruel-fed graduate students from attacking the food like hyenas in a drought.”

The feasting was briefly interrupted by the officers of the SGA, who each introduced themselves and described a topic important to them, including career services, alumni relations, and library seating capacity.

Said Laurent, “Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The informal setting allowed the intermingling to spark the exchange of ideas. Many of the students mentioned issues that were of concern to them. It did, however, make me smile about being in the city of acronyms when I received a batch of emails entitled, ‘IWP SGA BBQ RSVP.'”

Overall, attendees report, the barbecue was a great success, and the SGA hopes to host a similar event before the end of the semester.
