NATIONALLY KNOWN HOMELAND SECURITY EXPERT AND FORMER CIA ECONOMIST TO TEACH AT IWP
Washington, D.C., April 9, 2013 – The Institute of World Politics is pleased to welcome two new professors for the summer semester: Dr. James Jay Carafano and Dr. Anne Rathbone Bradley.
Dr. Carafano, who currently heads the foreign and defense policy studies departments at The Heritage Foundation, will teach IWP’s new course on Foundations of Homeland Security.
“Jim Carafano is one of our nation’s experts on homeland security and its role in overall national security policy,” says IWP president John Lenczowski. “As a 25-year U.S. Army veteran and a scholar with a distinguished record of publications, Jim brings to IWP the credentials of a scholar practitioner that we prize here on our faculty.”
An accomplished historian and teacher, Dr. Carafano has served as an Assistant Professor at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York, and served as director of military studies at the Army’s Center of Military History. He has also taught at Mount Saint Mary College in New York and served as a fleet professor at the U.S. Naval War College. He is a visiting professor at the National Defense University and Georgetown University. A graduate of West Point, Dr. Carafano also has a Master’s degree and a doctorate from Georgetown University and a Master’s degree in strategy from the U.S. Army War College.
Dr. Rathbone Bradley will teach IWP’s course on Economics for Foreign Policy Makers. She currently serves as the Vice President of Economic Initiatives at the Institute for Faith, Work, and Economics, where she develops and commissions research toward a systematic biblical theology of economic freedom. She is a visiting professor at Georgetown University and has previously taught at George Mason University and at Charles University, Prague. Her academic work focuses on the political economy of terrorism with specific emphasis on the industrial organization of Al-Qaeda. Based on her academic research she also worked as an Economic Analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency’s Office of Terrorism Analysis. Dr. Rathbone Bradley received her Ph.D. in Economics from George Mason University.

I am thrilled to be part of the faculty at IWP and to have the opportunity to get students excited about the economic way of thinking!”
“Anne Rathbone Bradley is an excellent new addition to the IWP faculty,” says Dr. Lenzcowski. “She brings an academic economist’s deep knowledge of those principles of economics that the historical record has shown actually work, and she brings to our classrooms a record of service as a practitioner in economic statecraft, having worked very specifically on the financial dimensions of counterterrorism.”
