Washington, D.C. April 26, 2013 – Prof. Paul Goble testifed as part of a panel on Islamist extremism in Chechnya before the House Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats and the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade.
Both suspects in the recent bombings at the Boston marathon–Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev–are of Chechen origin. Prof. Goble discussed possible extremist influences on the Tsarnaev brothers, as well as the strategies used by Islamist recruiters.
This summer, Prof. Goble will lead a directed study on Islam and Geopolitics in Eurasia (IWP 604).
