FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
STUDENT ACADEMIC JOURNAL ACTIVE MEASURES NOW AVAILABLE
Washington, D.C., June 24, 2013 – The second edition of Active Measures, a student-run academic journal at The Institute of World Politics, has been released.
“Active Measures represents what the students of IWP bring to the table in terms of foreign policy and statecraft,” says editor Katherine Humphries. “The journal represents their ingenuity and original thought. Through these journal articles, they demonstrate their skill and what they have learned at IWP – they are acting as what many call scholar-practitioners.”
Other editors this year were Ben Fricke and Samantha Borzi-Hedges, who were on the founding editorial committee of the journal and who both just graduated with the Class of 2013. Ben and Samantha, as well as fellow founding editor Mike Webber ’12, will represent the new Advisory Board for Active Measures, and will help students with future editions of the journal.
The name of the journal, Active Measures, refers to a set of influence operations and propaganda (disinformation and deception) used by the Soviet Union to persuade and to have a strategic impact. Of the journal’s title, IWP President John Lenczowski comments, “This expression is symbolic of an entire field of statecraft which is but one of those neglected fields which we at IWP have been dedicated to addressing.”
Many thanks to Charles Van Someren for formatting the journal into its print form; to the faculty members, especially Dr. J. Michael Waller, who contributed their expertise; and to Karina Rollins, contributing editor.
