This fall, Dr. David A. Glancy will join the IWP faculty as a full-time professor. In addition to teaching a new course on “Forecasting and Political Risk Analysis,” he will teach “Political Warfare: Past, Present and Future,” and “Foreign Propaganda, Perceptions and Policy.”
In the announcement of his appointment, IWP founder and president John Lenczowski said: “David is an outstanding strategic thinker who has greater experience in the theory and modern practice of strategic communications than almost anyone in government today. He integrates this expertise with his knowledge of international conflicts, alliances, homeland security, and international economics. He is a model scholar-practitioner of the kind IWP aspires to enlist to our faculty.”
From 2001 to 2006, Dr. Glancy served in Office of the Secretary of Defense where he served as a key leader in strategic communications. Specifically, he led the Defense Department’s team that developed plans, materials, and events to support the Department’s message strategy regarding the Global War on Terrorism, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and developed strategic communications plans that increased the Department’s outreach to the media, public opinion leaders, and members of Congress. He also served as an advisor to senior Defense Department officials on the military and political aspects of U.S. security relations with countries in the Eurasia region.
From 2006 to 2009, Dr. Glancy served as a Senior Advisor in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs of the Department of State where he was the primary official responsible for coalition relationships while working on a wide variety of national security policies.
Since his government service, he has worked at Booz Allen Hamilton, serving as a consultant to various U.S. government agencies on strategic communications, teaching at the National Defense University, and consulting for the National Intelligence University. He has also worked with the Center for Emerging Markets of the Sovereign Wealth Fund Initiative at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
In addition to his doctorate from the Fletcher School, where he studied under the guidance of IWP Academic Advisory Board member, Dr. Carnes Lord, Dr. Glancy has also earned an MBA from the University of Chicago.
