The Institute of World Politics is pleased to welcome two new members to the Board of Trustees: Former Director of Central Intelligence William H. Webster and maritime industry expert Lawrence Cosgriff.
Judge Webster, the only person who ever held both the position of director of the FBI (1978-87) and CIA (1987-91), currently serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Advisory Council.
“A strong case can be made that Bill Webster is the most highly respected man in the nation’s capital,” commented IWP president John Lenczowski. “Bill was not only chosen by different Presidents to serve in two of the most sensitive and strategic positions in the US government, but since he held those positions, he has been the indispensable figure who has been tapped to lead Presidential commissions of strategic importance to the nation — commissions which required bipartisan cooperation but concrete results that did not involve sweeping the important issues under the rug. That Bill would support the Institute in this most strategic fashion is a great honor to all of us in the IWP community.”
Judge Webster spoke at IWP Commencement in 2008, where he was awarded a Doctorate of Laws honoris causa for his decades of service to the nation and to causes higher than himself.
IWP’s other new trustee, Lawrence “Larry” Cosgriff, received his Master of Arts in Statecraft and National Security Affairs (specializing in intelligence) from the Institute in 2007. Mr. Cosgriff is a retired Naval Reserve Intelligence Officer with over 30 years of experience in the maritime industry.
“Larry is one of America’s foremost experts in maritime security and its relationship to naval intelligence,” commented Dr. Lenczowski. “He came to IWP in mid-/late- career and demonstrated to us his outstanding abilities as an integrated strategic thinker. He has been a loyal and devoted supporter and advocate of IWP’s mission, and we are enormously grateful for his willingness to serve IWP in this capacity.”
The Institute is also pleased to welcome to its Advisory Board Chris Ruddy, CEO and president of Newsmax Media Inc., one of the nation’s leading news media companies.
“Chris Ruddy has unambiguously demonstrated himself to be one of the most intrepid and courageous journalists of the modern era,” said Dr. Lenczowski. “With an extraordinary record of investigative reporting under his belt, he has become one of the most successful media entrepreneurs in the country. He is a man of integrity, unshakable principle, and uncommon decency. His involvement with IWP is a great gift.”
