Matthew Ryan joins IWP as Chairman of the Audit Committee

Matthew RyanThe Institute of World Politics is pleased to welcome Matthew X. Ryan to the Board of Trustees as the new Chairman of the Audit Committee.

Mr. Ryan is currently a co-owner of a management consulting firm specializing in turnarounds, workouts, crisis management, strategic planning, and economic forecasting for companies ranging from manufacturing start-ups to established service organizations. He has additional experience in both alternative investment and public accounting, as well as extensive experience in risk analysis and operations management.

He was elected by the Institute’s board on October 13th.

Previously, Mr. Ryan has experience as an auditor and accountant for a tax consulting group. This included aiding a top-5 U.S. bank with internal auditing.

Mr. Ryan worked as a conversion manager for an investment firm where he oversaw a small team of specialists and was responsible for simultaneously managing multiple different accounting projects. Prior to becoming conversion manager, Mr. Ryan was a conversion specialist responsible for client conversions and implementations. He was also a hedge fund accounting analyst responsible for full-spectrum accounting of many funds.

Outside of his consulting and accounting work, Mr. Ryan is a Captain in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard with nearly 13 years of service in the military. He currently serves as the Company Commander for a logistics/distribution unit based in Central Pennsylvania. In 2009, Mr. Ryan deployed to Iraq where he served dual roles as the Executive Officer of a medical unit and as the Brigade Medical Logistics Officer for the 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team.

Mr. Ryan currently serves on the Board of Directors of a Philadelphia-based non-profit organization and volunteers with numerous other non-profits throughout the United States. He also participates in numerous political organizations in Western Pennsylvania and has served on campaign committees for local, state, and judicial candidates.

Mr. Ryan holds a B.S. in Finance from The Pennsylvania States University and an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Public Accountant (Pennsylvania & Virginia).
