On Saturday May 21, the Institute of World Politics hosted its 2016 Commencement Exercises at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Following remarks by Dr. John Lenczowski, President and Founder of IWP, honoree John Lovewell received a Doctorate of Laws Honoris Causa and also gave remarks. Ambassador R. James Woolsey, Chancellor of IWP and former CIA Director, delivered the keynote address.
Professor S. John Tsagronis led the Pledge of Allegiance and introduced the Class of 2016. Joyren Quarcoo, Member of the Class of 2016, led attendees in singing the National Anthem. IWP U.S. Army War College Fellow CH (LTC) Karen Meeker delivered the invocation.
At the ceremony, 32 Master of Arts Degrees, 1 Graduate Certificate, and 3 Service Fellowship Certificates were awarded among the Class of 2016. Seth A. Hardy was recognized as Valedictorian and Kevin P. M. Murphy as Salutatorian.
Members of the Class of 2016 have diverse plans for the future, such as studying Mandarin in China, supporting logistics at the Pentagon, working as defense contractors for various U.S. government agencies, serving on the House Homeland Security Committee, pursuing doctorate degrees, running for elected office, and applying for the Peace Corps.
